John Terry

image

Just a few days ago, heard that he had some social problem with his former teammate Wayne Bridge. Before I didn’t read the news, I was alarmed by the thought that Terry was gay. That would be a very unbelievable thing to believe.

Now it’s clear that he’s not gay. xD I want him to be part of the English team for the World Cup. After all, he’s one rare player who I admire even though he is playing for the bitter rival Chelsea.

UV Filter

image

Finally got a UV filter for the lens. I should have got it much earlier—since before I went to Yangon last December. I just hope the dust (there was just extremely much of it in the village) didn’t do harm to the lens.

Over Subscription

I think I’m being engulfed by the fire I made. It’s like a hard race to catch up with all the subscriptions everyday save the weekends—in Gmail, in iGoogle, in GReader. Headline scanning and Mark all us read seem to be the only viable solutions since I can’t speed up my already-too-slow-despite-all-effort-to-improve-it reading. :x

(Untitled)

A lot of things in my mind since last December. But never got to put them to words since I got back to Singapore. The two weeks since I got back here haven’t been very relaxing ones (I won’t complain. I have had my fair share of relaxed days before that). There seems to be a stream of stuffs coming down my way; just after one is finished, another comes up—some worry me; some make me nervous; some didn’t go as planned; some turned out as good; some I still have no idea how to deal with. All of them, I pushed them to the back of my mind; otherwise I wouldn’t be able to sleep? (No. Not really. I can still manage to sleep anyhow.) I hope I know soon enough where I’m heading to (even) in the (near) future. Life’s just too dynamic these few months.

Unrelated note: I have been watching Prison Break (it’s been out for quite some time, but this is my first time watching it. Thanks Aye Mg.) and re-watching Friends which never fails to make me laugh even when I know what is gonna happen next; it’s just that the cast is so great and I think I have said about it before…it just makes me feel like I’m going 10 years back in time and reliving the lives of these people, seeing how they were like 10 years ago compared to what they have become in the end. I think Prison Break is a great TV series too; it’s exciting and keeps me in suspense while things are unfolding, but I don’t think I’ll ever wanna watch it again. And that gives me an impression that a life or a story filled with thrill is exciting to live but not to relive, but one filled with fun and laughter is always fun to live and also to relive and to relive and to relive—you’ll never get bored! (:

Too Much Love Will Kill You - Queen

Heard that from radio. :)

The meaning is a bit ... It says the song is about May's feelings during his divorce, and the choice one must make between two women that one loves equally. on Wikipedia page.

Doesn't Mean Anything - Alicia Keys

This beautiful city seems empty.......What's the point of having it all, without the person you love...It doesn't mean anything...now that you're gone...

Used to dream of being a millionaire, without a care
But if I’m seeing my dreams you aren’t there
’cause it’s over
that just wont be fair
darling,
rather be a poor woman living on the street,
no food to eat,
cause i don't want no body if i have to cry.
cause it's over
when you said goodbye!

all at once...
i had it all
but
it doesn’t mean anything
now that you’re gone
from above seems i had it all
but it doesn’t mean anything
since you’re gone

now i see myself through different eyes,
it's no surprise!
being alone will make you realize
when it's over!
all in love is fair I shoulda been there, I shoulda been there, I shoulda shoulda.

all at once...
i had it all
but
it doesn’t mean anything
now that you’re gone
from above seems i had it all
but it doesn’t mean anything
since you’re gone

I know I pushed you away
What can I do that would save our love
Take these material things
They don’t mean nothing
Its you that I want
All at once...
I had it all
But it doesn’t mean anything
Now that you’re gone
From above,
Seems I had it all
But it doesn’t mean anything
Since you’re gone

All at once...
I had it all
But it doesn’t mean anything
Now that you’re gone
From above,
Seems I had it all
But it doesn’t mean anything
Since you’re gone

Site Redesign

I think my blog is loading more and more slowly as I add more and more stuffs. Time to re-think to change the design to make it load faster.

Most likely, I’m gonna go for a minimalist design without using much visuals or re-using a good built-in theme that can be expanded horizontally a bit.

AntiVirus: MSE

image

I think an AntiVirus is great when I don’t remember that I have it installed.

I installed Microsoft Security Essential as a test because of the hype among the media. Since then, I have forgotten that I have MSE installed on my machine. It is by default set to scan the files I use and download, and I haven’t noticed any noticeable drop of performance.

I’m not sure of other AntiVirus applications like Norton and McAfee (I hope Norton has improved since the memory hog days). But, this thing—MSE—is free and really great. I have yet to see it catch anything, but that could be due to my daily computer use which involves browsing the internet and only downloading legitimate files.

I think I’m just…out of nowhere…hailing Microsoft MSE. It’s really good, that it is!

Glasser

image

As show in the picture. That’s what Glasser does to Firefox on Windows 7 (and Windows Vista, I guess).

I installed it just as a test. Now I don’t think I’m gonna uninstall it unless I later find that it becomes annoying.

Aww…Nexus One

image

Been hearing rumors about the Google Phone for long time. I missed out the launch event. Actually got to know Nexus One was already launched officially when I came back from Mandalay trip. It’s a good thing that it ships to Singapore! Anyway, who thinks I can afford to buy one?!!! LOL!

Checked the specs…I was pleasantly surprised that it is powered by 1GHz processor and has 512MB of RAM. I remember my first ever computer was an Intel P3 1GHz with 128MB of RAM. ;-)

By all means, I would love to have a chance to use this phone. I hope I could afford to buy one when it gets to around Nexus Three, maybe? :-)

PPT Day 6

Second day we are doing the work at the village. At first things were a bit haywire. We were a bit out of sync among ourselves and with the kids as well. Slowly things settled and we started the plan accordingly.

I was a bit worried at first when we couldn’t get the equipment ready for the electrolysis experiment. The soldering didn’t work out well & we were already into the lunch break. Still it wasn’t quite OK yet. Fortunately, we got wire tape in the end & it solved the problem of soldering.

After lunch, it was our class =) I was in the English class with Shermin but we lost control of the class and Chee Siong & Swe Swe took over us. I moved to the Chemistry class & continued the lesson there. Quite a lot of planning had gone into getting the science class ready and I was glad that it turned out good in the end. I hoped it was useful for the children. Must thank Khine for the great help & flexibility in our always changing plan.

At night we just as usual had a meeting which took the time till around 10pm. Later another meeting from 11 to 12. That basically made me sleepy afterwards & I got not enough time to write on this diary (or at least I couldn’t pay enough thoughts to what I was writing) though I had many stuffs in my mind during the day.

PPT Day 5

Finally we were there at the village. The bus ride took about two hours (which would have been a little bit over one hour were the roads in a better condition). I got some nice photos along the way too. =)

By the time we got there, the children were all gathering to greet us. It was a really touching feeling.

Soon after our arrival, we saw the kids having lunch. Later, it was our lunch & I realized there was such a huge difference between their meal and ours!

I was glad that the naked egg experiment turned out good in the end. Thanks Khine for the help.

Later we had a teacher interaction session. I think we managed to put across our ideas to them.

After that, we came back from the village, and thanks to Zin Mon’s dad, we had steamboat dinner at Shwe Kaung. The X’mas gift exchange was really fun & I got the most hilarious gift of the year!

Then came back to the hotel & we had some discussion for the next day. Then shower and another discussion with Pei Yee & Shermin. We had a hell of a laughter: Buffaloes are all male & Cows produce eggs!

All set now…ready for another day of excitement at the village.

PPT Day 3 & 4

I’m very disappointed at how things were progressing. There is just too much red-tape going on! We should have been there by Day 3 but we are still stranded in the middle of two choices without even knowing what would come the next day. =S

It was a good thing that we went to Andrew Orphanage. Was a fun experience although too much dust limited me (us) from doing as much as I (we) wanted to.

By Day 4, we were still having problems with the permit to stay there. I was supremely surprised by the utter lack of efficiency of the approval process. Dealing with uncertainty is a good skill to have but too much of it can really hamper plans a lot!

At night, we celebrated X’mas eve in Keith’s room. It was fun though a bit silent. =)

Tomorrow, we’ll be going down to the village for the first time (regardless of the approval status coz we’ll be coming back in the evening) & I hope things will start going on as planned.

PPT Day 2

Woke up early in the morning though I could still continue sleeping. No time for shower this morning & quickly went off for breakfast. It was one of the worst breakfasts I ever had. I hated the “cold” coffee most!

Then went on to Khine Zar Lin’s place & tried out the experiments. I knew the results were out but I was kind of surprised that I wasn’t a wee bit excited enough to go check them. Anyway I though got nervous when we actually went to the internet cafe to check them. Unfortunately, thanks to the sophisticated and latest invention NUS WebVPN, I wasn’t even able to log into my account: I needed be connected to the VPN just to log into my account and the VPN servers were all jammed. Nice load-balancing! I finally gave up & decided to check them in the evening. Anyway, I sort of already knew my expected grades, so this was not a big problem as much as an annoyance.

Must really thank KZL’s mom for the nice breakfast. I loved the tea (and there was lots of it in the mug!) which I though had to pour down my throat as we were rushing for the exam results (which I didn’t manage to check then also).

Met the gang for lunch at Aung Thu Kha (I hope I remember the name correctly). After lunch, it was shopping time. That was a long, crowded, hot and tiring shopping. =D

Later I didn’t know what happened to Swe Swe and Ma Yu Thi: they said they wanted to know who their angels were. I tried wearing a poker face; I was Ma Yu’s angel. =)

I don’t remember where the dinner was. After dinner, we ran out of time to visit Shwe Dagon pagoda. So we instead went back to the hotel and talked about the Day 3 plans. The plans seemed to be all changing. Now we might be going to Taunggyi instead of Phayargyi Village, which I think is nice coz that’s gonna be a whole new experience for me! As much as it could be uncomfortable at times, the uncertainty we were facing now does add excitement to the trip. =)

PPT Day 1

The flight was on Monday. I was so tired on Sunday, so took a nap at night to only wake up at 4am. Still my luggage wasn't prepared yet. Started packing at 6am and fortunately finished at 730am.

Had to be at airport by 9am, so I had no choice but to resort to taking taxi to Terminal One. It turned out we had quite a bit of time at the airport. Checking-in was a long process with lots of boxes to carry. After that, had light breakfast and everything was a breeze.

The flight was fun! I think I didn't take a nap along the journey. By the time we got to YGN airport, the Burmese friends in their MAI white polo-tees were already there. [Heard that they were thought of as MAI staff members!] Took two light trucks to the Excel hotel. I don't remember how all the girls could squeeze into one truck; it wasn't a trick but it looked like it was. =D

I thought I could have enough time to do the trial experiments on Monday evening after checking into the hotel, but it turned out that we (KZL and I) only managed to buy the extra stuffs needed for the experiments. So we just planned the trials for the next day (which was the day the exam results would be released).

After dinner at Chinatown, there wasn't much to be done. But, that was when I started to learn that plans may change drastically [in hindsight, so drastically it did change!]. I started getting worried then though I had no idea of what I was worrying about; just that I was worried the plans wouldn't  go through. I wouldn't normally want uncertainty in computer games (I just get a Trainer and get ahead), but in real life, it's something I have to live with anyway; I just hoped then that our team managed to handle the uncertainty (and so well they did! Kudos!).

That was just about the first day (afternoon plus evening) of the project trip. Off I went to bed with some thoughts and excitement. Gotta get up early the next day to have enough time for the experiments.
